Dear colleague, We are happy to share a new GLP effort with all of you. Earlier this month, as a part of its synthesis and agenda-setting function, a group of 50 past and current SSC with additional GLP community members from over 20 countries, published “Ten Facts about Land Systems for Sustainability” in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The paper is accompanied by a companion report published by the GLP International Programme Office (IPO), offering specific examples of the facts to help policymakers and societal partners craft effective solutions to our most important global challenges, from climate change to sustainable food production. Together, the paper and report are intended as a first step in what we hope will build into a series of GLP/LSS community-wide collaborative initiatives (including workshops, webinars, research, and other joint efforts with societal partners) that include all of you! We look forward to working with you all to build upon, debate, refine, and share understanding gleaned from the field of land system science around these facts, and to promote critical discussions on global land use, equity, and sustainability within and beyond our community. The paper and report can be viewed and downloaded open access at http://10facts.glp.earth/. On behalf of GLP SSC and Fellows, we look forward to engaging with all you in this initiative!
